How to Style your Kitchen for Spring

Spring is finally here – a time of rebirth and revival as nature wakes up and blossoms again after the dark winter months. With flowers starting to bloom around UK gardens and the smell of freshly cut grass slowly creeping back into the air, many people want to capture the essence of Springtime in their homes, particularly their kitchens. A full kitchen renovation for each season is certainly not a practical undertaking, but you can bring the spirit of Spring into the home with just a few simple steps.

Let there be light

Once the clocks go forward, and daylight saving begins, those of us with 9-5 jobs will finally get to leave work in the sunshine instead of darkness. The sun will break through a grey and gloomy sky, brightening up our homes and boosting our mood. Embrace the sunshine and invite the light to illuminate your space by keeping blinds and curtains fully open throughout the day. For smaller areas, creating the illusion of more space is critical. A well-lit kitchen will stop the room from feeling cramped and brighten up any dark corners, giving the room a feeling of freshness.

If natural light is limited in your space, introduce light through lamps, pendant lighting and even under cabinet LED’s, which look particularly effective when used with our sleek Milano units. Statement lighting is a huge trend that’s not going away anytime soon.  Not only do they make a stylish statement, they also illuminate your space and can completely change the atmosphere within the room.

Pretty pastels

As bright and vibrant colours slowly return to our gardens and countryside, many of us will feel inspired to bring those colours inside the home. The springtime colour palette typically comprises of pretty pastels and soft, soothing tones. A shade like Rose is playful yet sophisticated, giving the room a pop of Springlike colour and leaving it feeling fresh and airy. If you’re wary of adding lots of colours, pairing pastels with soft white or grey walls is a less daunting way of injecting colour into your home and gives the kitchen a more neutral feel.

Colourful cabinetry isn’t the only way to add pops of pastel into your kitchen. Décor is an excellent way of injecting colour and style into a space without drastically changing the original design. This soft colour palette can be introduced in many ways, from bright vases to patterned pastel ceramics.

Flower power

When you think of Spring, few things come to mind as much as Flowers. One of the best things about Spring is the emergence of beautiful flora, from Daffodils and Tulips to wildflower meadows and blossom trees; so many beautiful things bloom in Spring. Decorating with flowers is a fantastic way to incorporate Springtime into your kitchen, whether with a small bunch on the windowsill or a big bouquet on the island; introducing florals into the space will instantly bring joy and boost the mood.

Bursts of bright

A pop of bright, bold colour can leave your space feeling fresh and vibrant. A lively colour like Apple Fizz ensures your kitchen feels like Spring all year round and gives off fun, playful vibes. Creating contrast by combining two bold colours is a playful way to liven up a colour scheme and have fun with your interiors. Using joyful colours like Yellow will evoke feelings of Spring and the sunshine it brings with it.

Be inspired by nature

Don’t be fooled into thinking you must use bright colours to bring a sense of Springtime into your kitchen. If you’re colour phobic, opt for natural elements instead. Add some greenery to your kitchen with plants, from herb gardens and lemon trees to cacti and succulents, leafy greens are an excellent way to add life to your kitchen. Decorate open shelving with plants and dried flowers to bring texture into the space.

Spring Clean

Finally, it wouldn’t be Spring without the big Spring clean. Few of us would see spending a day deep cleaning the kitchen as a fun way to say hello to Spring, but a clean and tidy space will mean you can enjoy the new season without worrying about going home to a messy kitchen. De-clutter worktops of unnecessary items by using available cupboard space to store things that have worked their way into the cooking area. Investing in clever storage solutions like a corner larder or cooks pantry will come in handy when it comes to keeping workspaces clear.
