Wren Heritage

From the early days of the fitted kitchen to launching Infinity Plus, Infinity and Vogue, the family behind Wren has been setting the pace for the kitchen industry. Their journey has taken them from Yorkshire to the US and back again but they've always kept quality and affordability at their heart.

How we become the
UK's #1 Kitchen Retailer

1950-1970

Where it all began

The family's journey began with Newhome Paint in Hull, a flourishing painting and decorating supplies business, before they branched out into the highly successful Status Discount stores which they ran during the 1960s and 1970s.

Where it all began

1976

Launch of hygena

In 1976, the family set up Hygena, manufacturing kitchens from a 40,000 sq ft factory in Howden, East Yorkshire. Over the next 11 years it grew dramatically. At one point one in three kitchens in the UK was a Hygena kitchen. By manufacturing the kitchen themselves, costs were kept low and quality standards high - the very things that Wren is famous for today.

Hygena's smart and beautiful designs and finishes fuelled the explosion in popularity of the fitted kitchen. As a result the size of British kitchens began to grow and the room's role in our homes started to change. Family life started to revolve around the kitchen and it became the place for everyone to spend time together as well as eat, entertain, work and play.

1987

From the usa
to the uk

After revolutionising the kitchen market in the UK, the family decided to sell Hygena and move to the US, implementing the same business core aims into another kitchen retailer, 'Mills Pride'. After becoming the 2nd largest kitchen manufacturer in the US, the family decided to sell and return home to the UK.

Birth of Wren Kitchens

On a shopping trip in 2008, the family found themselves looking at fitted kitchens and were shocked by what they discovered - a market that had gone backwards in terms of both quality and choice. A market that was ready for a second revolution - and so Wren Kitchens was born.

With innovation, investment and decades of experience behind it, Wren set out to change the market, Since launching in 2009, Wren has become the largest manufacturer and retailer in the UK with Showrooms nationwide.
