Smart Appliances to Help you Survive This Christmas

Christmas is the time of year to eat, drink and be merry. But it can also be a stressful time too, juggling the organization of buffets and soirees you’d promised to your extended family and friends. Whatever it is that you’ve got planned, you need to make sure your preparation and hosting time is as stress-free as possible.

We speak to Wren Kitchens’ Joanne Dodsworth for her expert advice on the very latest smart appliances which are a helping hand in any kitchen.

Smart Fridges

It’s easy to forget what you really need from the supermarket when you’re surrounded by tempting festive foods. You swear to only buy the essentials, but cowardly arrive back with only an arm full of pork pies and delicious pigs in blankets… Wren has got the perfect appliance to help with this regular conundrum.

“A smart fridge freezer allows you to check the contents of your fridge from your phone,” explains Joanne.

“The newly launched fridge freezers with Home Connect technology means you can check the contents of your fridge at any given time and place.

“The interior door cameras take pictures every time the door is closed and conveniently sends them to your mobile device. It means you’ll never forget an item again!”

During festivities we all love a cheeseboard, a must-have centrepiece for guests to help themselves. But there’s always one downside to it, and that’s the smells that alludes in your fridge which at times, can be embarrassing when friends and family help themselves to cold drinks.

“Some fridges comes complete with preserver technology to remove any unpleasant odours and a handy airtight box too,” declares Joanne.

“Not only that, but if you have lots of leftovers from your Christmas dinner, there’s a vacuum seal feature for food storage or if you’re a keen chef, it’s suitable for sous vide cooking.

“It’s proving popular in USA and France as technology helps to preserve food for longer and reduces food waste which during the festive season happens too often.”

Not only that, but modern refridgerators comes with a removeable caddy for drinks, ideal to keep wines and champagnes accessibly chilled whilst hosting a festive party.

2-in-1 Cooktops

In open plan spaces, the last thing you want is cooking smells traveling around your house or the need to shout over the extractor whilst trying to have that all important catch-up. Many kitchens have limited capacity for extractor hoods, especially if your cooktop is located on an island. Joanne reveals her favourite hob with an integrated hoods: “There are some clever designs and smart-looking induction combined extractor cooktops.

“They’re seamless with an ultra-modern flush fit, especially with Wren’s bespoke cabinetry work which enables it to slot perfectly into a base unit or island.

“The venting cooktop design makes cooking easy and flexible as some have four induction zones that can bridge to two, making it ideal for cooking with larger pans for the festive season.”

Self-cleaning ovens

A well-earnt rest is necessary to recoup after a full day of hosting. The last thing you want to do is to scrub down the kitchen and climb into the oven trying to wipe the engrained meat juices off your oven door.

Joanne says: “Self-cleaning ovens are rising in popularity, and we can see why as they make the dreaded clean-up the next morning much more lighter work.

“The pyrolytic technology means they burn away any grease and dirt, leaving a fine ash to simply wipe away.”

So, ditch the oven cleaner as your oven will look gleaming once again with just the press of a button!
