How to Organize Your Kitchen This Christmas

The kitchen really is the heart of every home especially at Christmas, so it’s important to keep it looking sleek and ready for hosting. We can’t deny that everyone is prone to a little overindulgence at Christmas but when you have limited space to store your festive food and decorations it can become stressful, so you need to think smart. Endless utensils, jars, cans, pots and pans can soon fill up your cabinet space, so innovative solutions are essential to limit stress and keep your kitchen looking wonderful!

Whether you’re using your kitchen for cooking a festive family dinner or throwing a Christmas party for friends, clever storage solutions, seating and table arrangements will make your life a lot easier! Wren Kitchens Design Director, Darren Watts, shares some simple tips on how to keep your kitchen organised this Christmas:

#1 Re-Order Your Fridge

“First things first, be sure to re-order and clear enough space in your fridge – it may be an obvious one but it’s a common problem when we’re prone to over purchasing during the festive season.

“You’re going to need to plenty of room to accommodate the big Christmas shop and for all those extra dishes that family and friends bring. There’s nothing worse than hiding festive foods around the house which create unnecessary clutter!

“Wren is seeing a rise in popularity with smart fridge freezers which help you during the Christmas shop, allowing you to check the contents of your fridge from your phone. Newly launched fridge/freezers with Home Connect technology means you can check the contents of your fridge at any given time and place. It means you’ll never forget an item again!”

#2 Extra Storage

“For most families, the kitchen is the hub of the home – clutter-free countertops and practical storage ideas will keep the room functional and looking great for all your Christmas merriments.

“Ensuring you have adequate storage is extremely important for hosting guests and Wren is an expert in finding a place for every single item in your kitchen from that awkward potato masher to showcasing your favourite vintage dinner platters. You will need ample table space, so you can’t afford to have clutter. Resourceful rotating or floating corner storage can bring the contents of your cupboard to you whilst keeping your kitchen organised and easy to access.

“Wren makes every unique kitchen to order and they offer the best corner storage cabinets in the market which can also house spice racks, wine coolers and bulky items such as big oven trays to accommodate your Christmas turkey for the main event! Choose from a curved base, magic corner and twin-carousel corner cabinets in a variety of door styles and colours to match your kitchen.”

#3 Storing Festive Tipples

“Integrating a drinks storage into your kitchen, regardless of the rooms style or size, will not only add an element of sophistication to your kitchen but will also make it easier for you to reach for the Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning or the prosecco at a Christmas party.

“Wine coolers are ideal for the festive season and a necessity for any keen wine drinker. Wren has a range of design options so it’s easy to find a wine cooler that suits your kitchen such as double-door under-counter wine coolers with capacity to store 40 bottles within two temperature-controlled zones.

“When throwing a party, why not also invest in a stylish ice bucket to create a temporary drinks cooler that’ll look sleek and modern in your kitchen.”

#4 Have A Mess Free Party

“Take away the hassle of cleaning up after a Christmas party and sort out the recycling by integrating aesthetically-pleasing trash cans into your kitchen decor.

“Hidden away behind a cupboard door and designed to house your separated paper, glass and plastic for recycling, compartmented bins are ideal for busy fun-loving hosts that still want to be eco-friendly.

“A well-earnt rest is necessary to recoup after a full day of hosting. The last thing you want to do is to scrub down the kitchen and climb into the oven trying to wipe the engrained meat juices off. Self-cleaning ovens are popular, and we can see why as they make the dreaded clean-up the next morning much more lighter work.

“The pyrolytic technology means they burn away any grease and dirt, leaving a fine ash to simply wipe away.”

#5 Seating

“It’s all about ease when entertaining – you need to make sure you and your guests are relaxed. Getting creative with your seating arrangements can be a real help when entertaining, as letting tired feet rest will mean no complaints and more drinks!

“A great way to incorporate seating into your kitchen is around your island or an extended breakfast bar. For a real party showstopper opt for Wren’s unique Stealth Island which provides great space for a bar and a central area to perch; perfect for hosting friends and family.”

#6 Create An Inviting Atmosphere

“Whether you’re throwing a small, intimate dinner party or a glamourous Christmas get-together with all your friends and family, make sure you choose the right lighting as it can dictate the mood of any room – your kitchen is no exception.

“For your dining space you’ll want an overhead light to gently illuminate the room whilst you dine. For festive party soirée, make sure you dim to lights and use candles, tealights or fairy lights to create a festive ambience.
