How to Decorate Your Table for Christmas Dinner

Colorful Christmas table decor

A beautifully dressed table can make all the difference to a great dinner on Christmas Day. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate design, understated and minimalist décor can looking just as charming as an extravagant setting. What’s important is that your dinner table is in keeping with the rest of your decorations and that the style reflects you and your family.

Think of your table dressing as an extension of your Christmas tree and home decorations, as well as being a way of tying the whole design together.

Last week in our Christmas Countdown we discussed three of our favourite décor themes; Nordic, traditional and quirky design, so let’s see how these style could inspire your dinner table decorations:

Christmas Dinner Table Place Setting

A crisp white table cloth is a good place to start. By forgoing a table runner and choosing a plain cloth you keep the backdrop of your dinner table clean and simple. Pops of colour in your accessories will add interest to the table, serviettes with stitched detailing or plaid design will look great. Modest silver cutlery will look beautiful styled with an array of candles, with elegant tableware to complete the look.

Traditional Dinner Table

If your décor is traditional, you’ll probably want your table to have a grand appearance, featuring red, greens, gold and silver. These traditional colors look great styled with sprigs of greenery and wood, for a natural wintery appeal. Plain white crockery and glassware will look great alongside a stylish centrepiece, made from candles and Christmas holly.

Quirky Dinner Table

If your Christmas décor doesn’t fit into one particular style, use this to your advantage and create a quirky and playful table design. If it’s done right, mixing and matching different styles and colors can look great. A quirky table is perfect if you’ve got kids as you can use your imagination to create some fun accessories that everyone will enjoy. If you do have children joining you, plan ahead and gather some activities to keep them occupied. Coloring books are a good option and crayons can be tied together with ribbon and left with cutlery. Decorate the table with Christmas crackers and candy canes for a cute finish.
