Add Cottagecore Charm to your Kitchen this Autumn!

Get cozy this Autumn with a new trend that’s here to stay: cottagecore. Essentially, it’s a rustic design that’s inspired by countryside scenes, traditional crafts and natural materials. It’s the opposite of modern minimalism as it embraces color, prints, and vintage pieces.

The philosophy behind it is to create a warm and inviting space with character, and the kitchen is the perfect room to add those eclectic touches! Think woodgrain kitchen cabinets, traditional range cookers and antique dressers displaying mismatched crockery handed down generations.

See how you can recreate or take inspiration for your own special kitchen space…

Go for farmhouse-style cabinetry

If you’re starting from scratch, choose traditional style kitchen cabinets such as Shaker Forest for natural wood grains or an opulent framed Country-style. It’s timeless, it’s beautiful and brings a countryside-feel to your home.

Color-wise, choose a traditional palette such as creams, sages or whites and then highlight a feature cabinet such as an island or dresser with natural earthy tones such as Forest Green, Pebble or Royal Blue. This creates the perfect canvas to add your own nostalgic touches.

Add a bespoke dresser or cook’s table

The dresser is a mainstay of a British farmhouse kitchen and it’s a beautiful way to display and store collectibles and ceramics. Wren’s expert designers can create a bespoke dresser that’s a focal feature of your kitchen space. They can be finished with a wooden interior, and complete with whatever storage you desire such as plate racks and drawers.

Cottagecore makes a feature of the things you use every day, so use open shelving to display your favorite crockery and cookware too. It’s even better if everything doesn’t match – you want it to look like you’ve inherited a collection of mismatched pieces!

A cook’s table is making a resurgence from the Victorian era. It creates more countertop and open-end storage space; not only is it practical, but it can make a real bespoke feature in your kitchen space. It’s the perfect addition to the end of an island, a peninsula or just as a stand-alone table.

Install a traditional range cooker & Belfast sink

There’s no doubt, the two most traditional investments for your cottagecore-style kitchen are a traditional range cooker and Belfast sink. Both create a cottage charm and are key pieces in bringing the theme together.

No matter how much space you have, you can easily add a range cooker as they don’t have to be supersized; they start from as small as 60cm upwards of 100cm. Go for timeless finishes such as creams and blacks, any other color will quickly date.

The Belfask sink has always been a popular choice, they’re large and deep which makes it perfect for a busy household. Consider a double Belfast if you need that extra space for washing veg in one and putting pot and pans in the other.

Go for floral, striped or checked fabrics

To accessorize your kitchen and to bring a sense of nostalgia, bring those nana fabrics to the forefront! The kitchen is the perfect space to add these prints- think ditsy florals, plenty of frills and traditional checks. Tea towels, table cloths, blinds, lampshades, rugs and cushions are the perfect places to add this countryside style.

If you have neutral colored kitchen, a pop of color can enhance your space so go brave and bold and mix two or three patterns. Or to keep it themed, stick to one style that complements the color of your kitchen cabinets.
