How to make a statement with your kitchen tiles
Design & Decor Ideas
The tiles you choose truly do have the power to transform your kitchen. Whatever your design preference, budget, and kitchen size, rest assured there’s a perfect set of kitchen wall tiles out there for you! And with so many different tile trends right now, there’s a near-endless number of ways you can incorporate them into your kitchen.
Kitchen wall tiles are key
It’s easy to make a statement with your kitchen wall tiles, while showing off your own personal style. Simply choose your favourite colours, shapes and layouts to create a space that’s chic and sophisticated, fun and fresh, or warm and welcoming.
The placement and pattern of your tiles are entirely up to you too. As you’ll see with these latest trends, you don’t have to cover your entire wall with tiles – you could create a statement splashback, or arrange your tiles so they sit halfway up the wall, before finishing off the look with an expertly-added shelf (the perfect place to house your spices or crockery!).
Incorporate intricate patterns
When it comes to placing your kitchen wall tiles, think beyond the traditional horizontal style.
Vertical and herringbone designs add a touch of modernity to your space, or you could add intrigue by selecting honeycomb or scallop-shaped tiles. Opt for whites and creams if you prefer the traditional look, or patterned tiles for a farmhouse kitchen feel (think cream tiles with an animal-themed pattern in cornflower blue).
Two-tone tiles
Embrace the two-tone kitchen trend with two different shades of tiles. Ombre designs look great in shades of grey, blue, pink and green, or you could choose two contrasting colours, and create your own unique striped design.
Alternatively, you could colour-block your kitchen by adding open shelving on your walls, filling each section with different colour tiles.
Want to merge two trends into one? Select two separate colours and arrange them into a herringbone design, to bring your kitchen right up to date!
Sophisticated and sumptuous blacks
Black tiles may be classic, but they’re anything but boring. The beauty of black kitchen wall tiles is if you incorporate them into your kitchen design, you can accessorise them with virtually any other colour you like – from bright pops of colour, to soft pastels across your cabinets, kitchen island, and various appliances and accessories.
Alternatively, you could ooze sophistication with an entirely black kitchen (if your kitchen is on the small side, we recommend using gloss ceramic tiles, as they help to reflect the light). To make your tiles truly stand out, add white or grey grouting as a finishing touch.
Opt for subway tiles
Subway tiles are here to stay: inspired by New York’s subway stations, they add a modern, industrial-feel to your kitchen.
Their long, thin shape makes them the ideal tiles for arranging into a herringbone or double-weave design. Matte-black and glass tiles are bang on trend; and you’ll have the option of bevelled-edge and flat-edged tiles. Bevelled-edge tiles are great for adding shadow and texture to your walls, whereas flat-edged tiles are ideal if you want to create your own pattern.
Create a focal point with kitchen splashback tiles
If you’d like to incorporate the kitchen tile trend in your home, but don’t want it to look over-the-top, then why not create a focal point in your room through a splashback? This is the perfect opportunity to add a pop of colour — sunshine yellow, bright orange and lime green — all keep your space looking fun and fresh, and look perfect when paired with crisp white.
Alternatively, if you want to leave some of your wall space free from tiles, you could create your very own piece of patchwork. Simply select a section of wall where you’d like to arrange your kitchen tiles, and create a patchwork effect by clustering 10-12 tiles together.
Kitchen floor tiles
It’s not just your wall tiles that can make a statement – your floor tiles can too. If your overall kitchen design is muted, then you can afford to be daring with your floor.
The classic retro black-and-white tiled floor is having an in-moment, but you could freshen up this look by fashioning a misaligned checkerboard pattern.
Alternatively, terracotta floor kitchen tiles give your kitchen a homely and comforting feeling, whereas polished marble tiles are perfect if you’re after something more regal and glamorous.
The options are quite literally endless when it comes to choosing your kitchen tiles: from the colour to the style and how to arrange them, tiles are so versatile that you can use them to create a kitchen that truly showcases off your personality and style.
