Happy New Year! Today we’re taking a quick look at our trend forecast for 2015!
Minimalist kitchen
Elegant and minimalist kitchen design will continue stay on trend this year. Minimal cabinets are a great way to create a modern space and keep your kitchen feeling light, open and airy. This design works particularly well paired with a soft colour palette, with metallic accessories to add detail.
How to achieve the look: Handleless cabinets are perfect for constructing a seamless design. Use a soft and neutral colour palette for the cabinets and walls to really keep the design light and spacious.
Furniture styled kitchen cabinetry
As the traditional kitchen transitions away from being just a food preparation area, instead becoming a kitchen-diner where you eat, work and socialise, you’ll want your cabinets to reflect this transformation and help create a stylish dining space.
How to achieve the look: Panelling on cupboard doors, freestanding kitchens with cabinets raised on legs, contrasting colour cupboards, contrasting worktops.
Interesting textures
Contrasting textures will continue to be popular this year as they add interest to the kitchen and help create the feel of a multifunctional space. Rather than just having smooth and streamlined cabinets and worktops, groove panelling and different textures assist in defining your preparation and dining areas.
How to achieve the look: Contrasting surfaces, such as wooden or stone worktops, look great and will help to form different elements of the kitchen space.
Contrasting colours
Multi-coloured kitchen cabinets will remain a strong trend in 2015. As our kitchens are increasing in size and transitioning into open plan kitchen-diners, contrasting colour helps to break up the space and adds interest to the palette.
How to achieve the look: Islands are a great way to introduce a contrasting colour, a bold shade here will look great. As a general rule, try to keep the darker shades on the lower cabinets with the light colours up above to help open out the space.
Metallics
Metallics are a brilliant way to add a warm glow to your kitchen, with copper and rose gold continuing to be prominent in design from 2014 right into 2015. Metallics make for great accessories to add detail to a minimal design, whilst also bringing texture and colour into a room.
How to achieve the look: Cabinet handles, taps and light fixtures are ideal for adding a metallic accent to your kitchen design. For a warm glow stick to copper, bronze and gold, whilst silver and chrome will create icier tones.
