How to create a Luxe Christmas Tablescape

Our top tips on creating a luxe-style Christmas tablescape

If ever there is an occasion for creating a luxe table design, it’s Christmas. The festive season is all about indulgence and opulence, and nothing feels more lavish than the metallic hues of shimmering gold. We’ve created a luxe Christmas tablescape to inspire you to bring some grandeur to your home this Christmas.

Festive foliage adorned with gold eucalyptus is snaked around ornate candlesticks and glistening metallic décor to create this divine Luxe Christmas tablescape.

1. Set the scene

Create a base for your opulent display by using a plain tablecloth in rich fabrics like velvet or linen. White makes a neutral canvas that will work for any shade of gold and won’t draw attention away from the décor itself. If you’re leaning more towards a maximalist design, include a black or gold table runner and add more interest to the centre of the table.

2. Start your centrepiece

Bringing the outside in using ever-green plants is the perfect way to make your home feel festive and warm. Laying out a leafy green garland across the centre of the table ties in traditional Christmas elements to your tablescape. To incorporate metallics into the centrepiece, we entwined sprigs of gold eucalyptus throughout the foliage and added small branches of Christmas tree to bulk out the garland.

3. Go for gold

Combining luxe table decorations with flickering candlelight produces an enchanting design that makes your table as memorable as the menu. Weave through a mixture of candles of varying heights and styles into your garland. Tall gold candlesticks with contemporary twisted tapered dinner candles alongside chunky pillar candles created a layered glow. Small, ribbed, metallic tealight holders give a soft, illuminated glow when a candle is placed inside. Space out individually around your garland for added ambience. With dimmed lights and candles lit, your Christmas tablescape will feel warm and inviting.

Add a statement piece of décor to the middle of the table to create a design focal point. We used a tall, fluted, glass Christmas tree ornament with a gold metallic finish to catch the light and add the wow factor to our luxe Christmas tablescape.

4. Layer it up

A pivotal element to perfecting a luxe Christmas tablescape is layering up the place settings. Charger plates are an opulent and stylish way to add a touch of glamour and pump up your table game. It’s important not to overdo the gold, and incorporating it in small doses, like on the rim of a textured glass charger plate, is a more elegant and refined choice.

Sparkling white crockery reflects the glimmer of gold and is an understated, minimalist design choice. If you want to bring in the bling to your tableware offering, gold-rimmed plates are a sophisticated option that will work in harmony with the rest of the tablescape.

5. Little details

Pick up gold in smaller details with metallic-rimmed glassware. We used chic glass champagne flutes with a sparkling gold rim to ensure our glassware was as dazzling as the rest of the table. Frame your charger plates with glistening gold cutlery and add that extra opulence to your Christmas tablescape.

Pair white napkins in rich fabrics with statement gold napkin rings to elevate your plates. A chunky yet simple gold napkin ring will turn your pared-back crockery into elegant tableware.
